Michael Myers fans are in luck. A brand new Halloween movie, titled Halloween Returns, is in the works. Hollywood Life reports that the killer, who stalks his family members and random teenagers while wearing a terrifying white mask and wielding a huge kitchen knife, will return to scare a whole new generation of horror fans.
Bob Weinstein, the co-chair of Dimension and The Weinstein Company, revealed to Entertainment Weekly that there is a lot of excitement about the new Halloween flick.
“Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return. We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide.”
The first installment of the Halloween films was a huge hit in the 1970s and quickly became a cult classic. There were multiple sequels, including Halloween II and The Curse of Michael Myers, and in the 21st century, Rob Zombie decided to remake the first two films and put his own super scary spin on them.
Malek Akkad will produce the new film, and Matthew Stein will be the executive producer.
“The legacy of Halloween is something that Trancas is very proud of, and I look forward to working together again with Bob and Dimension to continue that tradition,” Malek told Deadline.
According to the Inquisitr, remaking fan favorite horror flicks isn’t uncommon. Many scary movies have been made and remade, with many sequels. Recently, MTV decided to turn the hit 90s horror film, Scream, into a television series after four movie installments.
Remakes of The Craft and I Know What You Did Last Summer have also been confirmed, as well as talks of a Beetlejuice sequel starring Michael Keaton.
Fans are hoping for a really good new Halloween installment, and not one that can’t hold a candle to the original movies — as so many horror movies are criticized and even made fun of in films such as Scary Movie and A Haunted House.
However, scary movies are a staple of our culture, and especially in the fall and during the Halloween season, everyone loves to get spooked a little bit. The new Halloween Returns film is sure to be released in theaters during the creepy holiday and will likely have horror fans flocking to the movies to check out the latest installment.
