Rita Ora is dishing on her breakup with Calvin Harris. And it’s significant to both fans of Rita and followers of Taylor Swift as well as Swift herself, reported the New York Daily News.
Now dating Taylor, Calvin gave Ora many reasons for the breakup. But the 24-year-old singer says that the period following their split was actually worse than the original let’s-call-the-whole-thing-off experience.
“There was a reason why I split up with him,” explained Rita.
Ora, reflecting on the breakup, added that she feels she has no need to justify herself to anyone, whether it’s a boyfriend or a music producer.
“There was a reason why I’m at this point in my life where I feel like I have so much musical freedom, and I don’t have to explain myself to anybody.”
But Rita also confesses that at one point in their relationship, she felt that Calvin was sheer perfection, and she idolized him.
“It was more of a thing where I was in awe. I was at that point in my relationship where I felt he could do no wrong. I thought he had my back and that he’d never steer me wrong. But then ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ came out, and everything started to go a bit weird. I don’t know if it was because business was mixed with personal or what.”
Their relationship took a 180˚ turn for the worse when Rita had planned to perform “I Will Never let You Down.”
Her excitement over performing the song at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards abruptly transformed to anger and anxiety when Scottish DJ Calvin banned her from achieving that goal on the grounds that he produced and wrote “I Will Never Let You Down.”
But why did Harris have the ability to manage Rita’s music? Ora, reflecting on her breakup, clarified that Calvin owns the rights.
“For anybody who doesn’t understand how it works, he wrote and produced the song. So he has to approve anything TV-wise… And obviously he owns the rights to it and he didn’t approve the Teen Choice Awards.”
Taking to social media to defend himself, Harris slammed Rita on the breakup re-hash.
“You’ll only know 1 side of the story RE Teen choice awards because I choose not to talk to the papers about every aspect of my personal life,” posted Calvin. “But just know I had a d**n good reason.”
Harris also tweeted his own version of why he ended his relationship with Rita. Ora talking on the breakup made it seem like bad business, but Calvin’s version took the high road about their year-long dating.
“To address speculation-myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best,” tweeted Harris.
As for Rita’s future, Ora mused on her post-breakup feelings to Marie Claire.
“I’m afraid of being alone,” said the singer flatly. ” I’m not afraid to admit that, you know. I’m not embarrassed to admit that. I just hope it’s not a never-ending cycle.”
And Ora compared love to drugs.
“Sometimes love just makes you feel crazy. And that feeling that we have as girls, just to have that feeling, even for five seconds, it’s like crack. I mean, don’t compare it to that, but you know what I mean. It’s like comfort eating.”
So how does Rita Ora’s tale on her breakup provide Taylor Swift with some suggestions on managing her own relationship with Calvin Harris?
As the Inquisitr reported, Taylor recently was spotted canoodling in a canoe with Calvin. In addition to sharing photos of their intimate pool day, Swift let actions speak louder than words by hugging Harris at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards and getting cozy over meals in chic restaurants.
