Jimmy Fallon and Aziz Ansari: Watch Clueless Men Send Horrific First Texts In This Hilarious ‘First Textual Experience’

Jimmy Fallon never seems to be short of an entertaining interview coupled with hilarious viewer submissions via Twitter, and last night’s episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon was no exception.

Jimmy Fallon’s guest on Monday, June 15, 2015 was Aziz Ansari, of Parks & Recreation fame, and who has recently released a book, Modern Romance: An Investigation, Guardian Liberty Voice reported.

The new book is a how-to book for surviving dating in today’s technologically savvy modern world, and has a particular focus on texting. With the 20th anniversary of the first text message recently celebrated, texting has become part of our social landscape, yet no one ever really learned proper texting etiquette – especially when it comes to the crucial first text sent in a new romantic relationship.

As the New York Daily News reported, Jimmy Fallon asked Aziz Ansari about the importance of that crucial first text, and Aziz revealed that something that seems so simple in theory – sending a text message to someone you’ve just met – is often done so badly.

“That’s something that a lot of people fret about: ‘What’s the first thing I should say?’. What we did for the book was really interesting, we looked at people’s real phones, like we had all these women and men show us their real exchanges, and it was really surprising the kind of bozo texts a lot of dudes send. It seems like a very simple thing to just say: ‘Hey, would you like to do this specific thing at this specific time, you were nice’ or whatever, but most dudes are just writing very weird things or saying ‘Hey’, ‘What are you doing?’, ‘Hey’.”

Jimmy Fallon revealed that they had asked viewers to send in the worst first text exchanges under the heading of First Textual Experiences, and Jimmy and Aziz then went on to read out some of their favourite submissions.

But first – Jimmy Fallon set the scene, creating a pseudo-romantic atmosphere with a bunch of lit candles, which somehow seemed more like a seance than a romantic exchange, but the comedic point was not lost on the audience.

Jimmy Fallon tried to control his laughter as he read out one text, with a special emphasis on the word “have” instead of “gave”, and then “is” instead of “I” in the follow-up text.

“My friend have me this number. Said a smart, pretty girl needed to be taken out to dinner? Where are you wanting to go?”

“This is Ron btw is was trying to be clever “

As Aziz pointed out, Ron’s problems could have been largely solved in a very simple way.

“Ron should have just done one proofreading session…”

Aziz read out the next text, which was a huge fail in that big three word text included the word “alcohol”, and then went so far as to misspell it as “alchohol”.

Jimmy Fallon and Aziz Ansari then went on to read the next text exchange as a conversation, which just went from bad to worse as “honor” continue to be autocorrected to “horror”.
