Mariska Hargitay: Olivia Benson Meets Her Namesake At Taylor Swift Concert

Mariska Hargitay may have felt like she was caught in some strange Bill and Ted-style temporal vortex. She was seconds away from meeting Olivia Benson.

Hargitay plays Olivia Benson on Law & Order SVU. Yet here was another Olivia Benson sharing the same space as Hargitay. Fortunately, the confusion wouldn’t have lasted long. This new Olivia Benson is much smaller, licks herself a lot more, and walks around on all fours.

Olivia Benson is the name Taylor Swift gave to her cat. And yes, Swift named her cat after Mariska Hargitay’s character on SVU. The pair had never actually met, though, until this weekend.

Mariska Hargitay dropped in on Taylor Swift’s 1989 concert tour shows on Friday in Philadelphia. She hopped on stage with Swift and fellow “Bad Blood” video star Cara Delevingne to dance along to Taylor Swift’s song “Style.”

Featured guests from the “Bad Blood” video have been popping up at Taylor Swift appearances a lot lately, so Hargitay appearing was par for the course nowadays. She has a veritable “Bad Blood” girl posse that follows her. According to E! Online, at Jaime King’s baby shower last week, she had along Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Hailee Steinfeld, Haim, Sarah Hyland, and Serayah.

But for her 1989 concert, she featured Mariska Hargitay, and fans were so enthused, Swift took to Twitter to announce that she wanted to talk Hargitay into touring with her. And Hargitay almost did.

But it was the after-party for the concert that featured the doppelgänger meet-up in the Green Room. Mariska Hargitay got to meet a real-life Olivia Benson, and Swift caught the summit on camera.

“Olivia Benson meeting Olivia Benson. @therealmariskahargitay”

Mariska Hargitay herself posted that she had learned a crucial bit of popular culture information that evening. She thanked Cara Delevingne for putting her wise.

“Thank you enchanting @caradelevingne for finally teaching me the meaning of #EyebrowsOnFleek… you are such a pleasure. Loved meeting you.”

Mariska Hargitay followed her big night with Taylor Swift up with a board retreat for the charity she founded called The Joyful Heart Foundation. According to their mission statement, Joyful Heart seeks “to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.”

With all the time she spends in her charity work, to say nothing of acting and being a mom, Mariska Hargitay may not be able to show up every time the rest of the “Bad Blood” team assembles. But Hargitay is doing good work, and that is worth many media appearances.
