Star Wars Boba Fett Film – Michelle MacLaren In Running To Direct

A new name has possibly been thrown into the mix to direct the upcoming Star Wars Boba Fett film to be released in 2018. Michelle MacLaren, the director formerly attached to the upcoming live-action Wonder Woman film for DC and Warner Bros. has now been bandied about as having a shot at the second Star Wars anthology film which is highly expected to feature fan favorite intergalactic bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

Let’s be frank, however; Michelle MacLaren directing the second Star Wars anthology film is at this point totally unconfirmed. However, ever since Josh Trank was summarily dismissed by Disney and Lucasfilm from the second Star Wars anthology film project, it’s not entirely unthinkable that Michelle MacLaren could be added to a director list including the likes of Jon Favreau and Matthew Vaughn to direct the expected Star Wars Boba Fett film.

The information regarding MacLaren’s possible addition to the directors being considered by Lucasfilm comes from the Meet the Movie Press podcast. On the most recent episode, they stated that according to their resources, MacLaren is certainly one of the directors being considered to direct the second Star Wars anthology film.

Michelle MacLaren has recently gotten the most press as the director being removed from the live-action Wonder Woman film after having creative differences regarding the story with Warner Bros. Although MacLaren has no other feature film experience under her belt, she has gained notoriety sitting behind the camera for such wildly popular television shows as Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul.

As to the second Star Wars anthology film to be released in 2018, Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan and producer/writer Simon Kinberg have both been attached to the screenplay. Kinberg, one of the film’s producers, was said to have come to odds with former director Josh Trank when he worked with him on the new Fantastic Four film, a film that Kinberg was not happy with.

The Star Wars anthology films are scheduled by Disney to be released every other year between the releases of the episodic Star Wars saga films. The first of those, Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens, directed by JJ Abrams will be released at the end of this year. The first Anthology film, Star Wars: Rogue One, supposedly centers on a group of X-Wing pilots and the events surrounding the acquisition of the first Death Star plans, will be released in 2016. The second Star Wars anthology film, the one that is reportedly centered on Boba Fett, and which may very well be helmed by Michelle MacLaren, is set to be released in 2018.
