UFC 188 – Cain Velasquez Talks Losing To Fabricio Werdum

The UFC 188 fight between Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum was a tough match for both fighters. However, the day – June 13 is a date that Cain will remember for a long time, after losing his UFC 188 heavyweight title to Fabricio Werdum.

Prior to the UFC 188 match, Cain was considered the “baddest man on the planet,” having beaten some of the fiercest names in MMA such as Junior dos Santos, Antônio Silva, Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Brock Lesnar by putting up stunningly overwhelming performances against his opponents.

Famed for his impressive cardio, Cain entered the Octagon in Mexico as a favorite among many, and it was hard to imagine him losing.

Moreover, numerous sources cited Werdum to be at a disadvantage in a duel with the star at the UFC 188. According to a pre-match commentary on the odds of Werdum winning the UFC 188, Fox Sports highlighted the following.

“…the odds don’t bode well for new interim heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, who claimed the title on Saturday night with a knockout win over Mark Hunt… In the end, Werdum still won, but he might want to hold that title close because the belt probably won’t be around his waist for very long. Cain Velasquez is possibly the most dominant heavyweight the UFC has ever known and his greatest enemy hasn’t been anyone he’s faced in the Octagon.”

However, UFC 188’s Werdum put up one of the best fights of his career to bring down the heavyweight champion, winning the match with a guillotine.

Cain Velasquez, on the other hand, is thought to have lost the UFC 188 belt due to a number of factors that range from his long break from fighting, which may have blunted his skills, the limited training in high altitudes considering that the fight venue was more than 7,500 feet above sea level, and the probable fact that Fabricio was simply the better UFC 188 fighter.

But the obvious is that Cain Velasquez has never had to endure such a thrashing in his professional career. The UFC 188 fighter had cuts around his eyes and seemed breathless by the end of the UFC 188 fight.

Here were some of the UFC 188 fans’ reactions on Twitter.

When UFC 188 fighter Cain was asked about his comment on the fight, the humbled fighter made no excuses about the defeat.

“I was here for two weeks before the fight, but there’s no excuses… Nothing was wrong. Fabricio was the better man tonight. “
