Grand Stand Collapses at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio – Injuries Reported

Reports are starting to come in that a grand stand at the Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio has collapsed, injuring several people. No word yet on if there were any fatalities.

The collapse was reported at around 5 p.m. local time, less than two hours before the first race of the 2009 racing season.

“There were about 5 people that were injured, sounds like most of them are walking wounded and they contained the incident already,”

Battalion Chief David Whiting told BNO News. He did not believe anyone was still trapped in the rubble.

A local television station also reported that it was a press box that collapsed, but officials could not immediately confirm at this time.
