WWE NXT star Finn Balor has become a major fixture in WWE since his arrival in 2014. In 2015, he became a star that many could see leading WWE one day. His entrances are considered stuff of legend, and his “war paint” is following suit. His wrestling ability and mic work are also quite good as well. He may be the only star in WWE who the fans love that people forget is actually a good wrestler.
Meanwhile, we also have Samoa Joe in WWE. He has made an impact early and even injured a man. All of this within his first month. WWE has decided to sign him to a full-time deal after noticing how well he was received once he came into NXT. On top of this, his merchandise sales were huge and still hold up today.
Joe is now working random NXT live events as well. This in-between his already scheduled Indy dates. He made a surprise appearance at the NXT live event in Pittsburgh this past week. Fans had no idea that he was even in the building, and once he came out, the roof exploded.
The main event in Pittsburgh was a fatal four way with Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, Tyler Breeze, and Samoa Joe. Fans at the event claimed it was an amazing show, but the main event stole it. Many believe that if NXT has shows like this on the road, they will be able to tour anywhere in the United States and get just as much love at the gate as they did in Pittsburgh.
At the end of the main event, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor did a staredown in the middle of the ring. This may have been a foreshadowing of events to come. Finn Balor is set to take on Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship in Japan in a few weeks on a WWE Network special. Many believe this will be the time Balor wins the gold, which will allow Owens to completely move to the main roster with no NXT ties.
Meanwhile, Samoa Joe is set to stay in NXT for a while. Balor will eventually have to face off against Joe, which could be the match we get at the next live WWE NXT special. Since Owens most likely will not get a rematch on the special — he will probably be involved in a SummerSlam angle by then — Samoa Joe seems like the obvious choice for his first opponent.
This also allows Joe to take the title off of Balor if and when WWE decides to call him up. WWE may very well continue to tease a Balor/Joe match by having the two get in each other’s face at live events as well as NXT shows for the WWE Network. We will have to wait and see what becomes of it. At this point, it’s no longer something we have to fantasy book. That is always a good thing.
