‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 3 Reviews Are In, Where We Left Our Favorite Characters

The release of Season 3 of Orange is the New Black is finally here, and a handful of reviews of the first six episodes have already started to appear online. The reviews reveal that the upcoming season will focus on a number of new backstories while the prison itself undergoes its own set of challenges.

One of the strengths of Orange is the New Black is its ensemble of diverse characters, and according to Tim Goodman from the Hollywood Reporter, Season 3 takes further advantage of that strength. Goodman revealed that the new season is filled with flashbacks for multiple characters, and the first episode revolves around Mother’s Day.

Meanwhile, Sam Woolf from We Got This Covered revealed that Litchfield will be going through some financial issues of its own this season. The prison, which saw a major change in leadership at the end of Season 2, will be dealing with privatization in order to stay open. How this impacts the characters in the second half of the season is yet to be learned.

While the reviews highlight the new backstories and challenges the prison will face in the new season, Netflix has revealed one character will be making a return. Lolly (Lori Petty), who was last seen in Season 2 when she accompanied Piper on the plane to Chicago, will be amongst the new inmates at Litchfield, Entertainment Weekly reports.

A recent video shows Petty teasing fans that she might attack Piper when she arrives, make a daring escape from the prison, or teach the women about kosher in the new season.

So where do a lot of the characters of Orange is the New Black stand as we head into season 3?

After being double-crossed by Alex in the Season 2 premiere, Piper has guilted her friends on the outside to report Alex to her parole officer, hopefully sending her back to Litchfield. These two on-again-off-again ladies are also rumored to have another character come in between them in Season 3, newcomer Ruby Rose.

Taystee and Poussey had a rough Season 2 with baddie Vee coming between them, so here is hoping these besties can make up in the new season.

We last left Red in the hospital after being attacked by Vee, who wanted to gain access to her underground tunnel in order to smuggle in drugs.

Let us not forget in Season 2 we learned that the always cheerful Morello is, in fact, delusional and perhaps a little crazy. In one memorable episode, she stole the prison van in order to stalk her “fiance” and break into his house.

Pornstache believes that he is the father of Daya’s baby, when it is actually officer Bennett. Rumor has it that Pornstache’s mother is going to be a factor in the new season, wanting to meet her grandchild.
