Randy Howard Killed In Shootout — Country Music’s Beloved Outlaw Dies From Bullet Fired By A Bounty Hunter

Country music has just lost one of its original outlaws at the hands of a bounty hunter. Randy Howard was killed in a shootout with a bounty hunter who had come to serve him a warrant.

Randy Howard, 65, was killed on Tuesday by a bullet fired from a bounty hunter’s gun. The music veteran who worked with the likes of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Charlie Daniels, Hank Williams Jr., and others, died on the spot from gunshot wounds. The bounty hunter, who a few reports have identified as Jackie Shell from A Plus Bail Bonding in Dunlap, Tennessee, was seriously injured in the gunfight. While Randy died on the spot, medical authorities have confirmed Shell will recover from the wounds.

Apparently, the bounty hunter had turned up at Randy’s residence to serve a Marion County, Tennessee, warrant. Though a beloved musician, Randy Howard wasn’t a law abiding citizen, claimed TBI spokesman Josh DeVine, said Shell, who works for A Plus Bail Bonding in Dunlap, Tennessee.

“Marion County [had a] warrant for Howard on charges of fourth-offense DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and driving on a revoked license.”

DeVine further added that the bounty hunter entered Randy’s premises on Griffin Road in Lynchburg, but was immediately greeted with gunfire. He fired back and in the skirmish fatally wounded Randy, who succumbed to the injuries within a few moments. Marion County Sheriff Ronnie “Bo” Burnett attested to the fact that the man [Randy Howard], who had a gunfight with the bounty hunter on the fateful Tuesday night in Lynchburg, Tennessee, was indeed wanted on a Marion County warrant.

“He’d been in jail here for a pretty good while. He didn’t show up for court so they had a failure to appear out on him. That’s what the jail told me.”

The bounty hunter strongly maintains that he merely returned fire. He claims he did not instigate the gunfight and solely fired in self-defense.

The unfortunate incident wouldn’t have happened if Randy would have just turned up at the courthouse for his hearing about the charges, said his neighbor, Terry Dotson.

“One morning I went over there to take him to court and he wasn’t ready. He said, ‘Well, I’ll call them in a couple hours.’ And that’s when I got mad at him. I said, ‘Look, we’re supposed to be there at 9 o’clock.”

It turns out Howard missed his appointment with the law, earning him a warrant and subsequently a death sentence from a bounty hunter’s bullet.
