‘The Flash’ Season 2 Spoilers: Two New Characters, Including Barry’s New Love Interest, Are Being Cast

The Flash is already looking forward to Season 2 with the latest news out about what to expect come fall from the CW’s hit series, as there are two new characters coming to the show, and they could both have quite the impact since one is a “major recurring role” and the other a “season-long role.”

The Flash Season 1 ended with, after a brief moment of happiness when Caitlin and Ronnie finally got married, Barry traveling back in time to save his mother, only for his future self to stop him. When he returned to the present, it was Eddie killing himself that stopped the Reverse Flash/Eobard Thawne/”Harrison Wells,” but the wormhole that had to be opened for the time travel reopened and began to, as Dr. Stein had feared, consume Central City. In an attempt to stop it, Barry decided to treat it like an upside down twister and sped up the side of a building and right into it, and that was how the season ended.

Also in the Flash season finale, despite Iris finding out that there’s a future where she and Barry get married and her byline reads Iris West-Allen, she and Eddie had decided to get back together and forget about a possible future. But that was before he died, and even though he died, that doesn’t mean that Barry and Iris will necessarily get together.

In fact, TVLine has revealed that the series is casting the “major recurring” character of Wendy, who is described as “spunky, fun and funny,” “bright and scientific-minded,” with the casting call saying to “Think ‘Felicity Smoak’ from Arrow.”

Wendy is a cop with the Central City police department, as well as Barry’s new love interest, and with Eddie gone and the character first appearing in Episode 2, could she come in as someone new for Joe and Barry to work with at CCPD? As the Inquisitr previously reported, Victor Garber and Robbie Amell will be in the premiere, which suggests that the new season could pick up relatively soon after the finale, since Dr. Stein and Ronnie were both with the other at S.T.A.R. Labs when the wormhole opened.

Wendy isn’t the only new character being cast, as TVLine has also revealed that there will be a “season-long role of a classically handsome, square-jawed hero in his 30s to early 40s, a slightly cynical man ‘with an edge’ ” and he is named “John Clark” in the casting call.

Finally, Variety has reported that Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment are once again teaming up to take over Hall H at Comic-Con Saturday night (July 11), with a Superhero-themed three-hour event. The Flash will be part of it, with a special video presentation and Q&A with stars and producers. Arrow and Gotham are getting the same treatment, and there will also be a screening of the Supergirl pilot as well as a Q&A with the stars and producers. Plus, there’s going to be a Q&A with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s cast and producers, and a peek at the new digital series, Vixen.

The Flash Season 2 will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW this fall. Watch the network’s Pull Forward tease for the new season below.
