Kanye West Theraflu Is On Fire: PETA Responds

Kanye West’s Theraflu, which features vocals from artists DJ Pharris and DJ Khaled, dropped on Hot97 and was an immediate hit! The latest track by hip-hop musician Kanye, otherwise known as the Louis Vuitton Don, was premiered by DJ Funkmaster Flex after being produced a little more than an estimated, according to Hit-Boy who produced the hit single, one week prior.

Yeezy wasn’t originally planned to be part of the record. G.O.O.D. Music producer Hit-Boy was quoted by MTV as having said:

“I actually had sent that beat to Khaled, and Khaled gave it to ‘Ye [Kanye West]. It was supposed to be for Khaled’s album, and ‘Ye was just like, ‘This needs to be out now; this is an urgent record.'”

Theraflu has been spreading like wildfire, or going viral as we’ve come to say in these fast-paced internet times, since it was premiered roughly 48 hours ago and it has left DJ Khaled, who provides the introduction vocals to the hit track, overwhelmed while simultaneously excited. Khaled was quoted by MTV News having said over the telephone:

“I was in the studio with ‘Ye, and I was like, ‘Let’s do something for your album and let’s do something for my album.”

While their next collaboration is unknown at this time, at least to the public, it appears as if Kanye West’s Theraflu will keep rap fans content for at least a little while before the rap powerhouses can collaborate again in order to release more hit tracks and quite possibly an incredible album.

In the hit song, Yeezy takes a shot at PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) as he raps:

“Someone tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor.”

West’s lyrics appear to be often entwined and derived from his own life so it should come as no surprise to find the talented musician taking a shot at PETA after Dan Matthews’ remarks regarding his and Amber Rose’s wearing of fur coats while attending Paris Fashion Week. Matthews, PETA’s senior VP, was quoted at the time having said:

“Kanye can’t help making himself look like an idiot, whether at an awards show or a fashion show. He and his girlfriend look like pathetic creatures from a shabby roadside zoo.”

In response to the Kanye West Theraflu lyrics in which ‘Ye raps, “someone tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor,” Matthews responded in a statement which read:

“What’s draggin’ on the floor is Kanye’s reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings. He’s a great musician but doesn’t seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes. We keep hoping that one day he’ll find his heart and join evolved style icons — including Russell Simmons, Pink and Natalie Portman — who have dropped animal skins.”

What are your thoughts on Yeezy’s hot new Theraflu track, his PETA lyrics, and their Dan’s subsequent response?
