Customer Refuses To Allow Gay Stylist To Cut Son’s Hair, Hairdresser Responds By Posting A Sign In The Window

A hairdresser in Prestatyn, North Wales is furious at a customer that refused to allow his son’s hair to be cut by a gay hair stylist. The customer did not have an issue with the trim until he discovered that the hairdresser was gay, at which point he questioned the man’s sexuality and walked away afterward. In response, the owner of the salon decided to post a sign in his window, warning off anyone that is “racist, sexist, homophobic, or an a*****e”. Within hours of posting the sign on Facebook, it went viral on.

The man in question was waiting for his son to get a haircut in the popular salon. The salon is quite popular and is the official salon of the movie Womble, so there is usually a wait. Russell Hughes was originally going to cut the boy’s hair, but was simply too busy, according to the Mirror U.K. So, Hughes asked a 23-year-old hair stylist to take care of the boy. The father, upset with the choice of hairdressers, approached Hughes and verified that the 23-year-old was going to cut the boy’s hair.

“He then said, ‘Well I assume he’s gay and I don’t want him cutting my lad’s hair so could you do it’, to which I said no because I’m gay as well.”

The boy and the man promptly left the salon without the hair cut.

Hughes was shocked that the man would act is such a disrespectful manner and wanted to get the message out that he was not going to tolerate customers that were bigoted toward his staff. He remembered seeing a sign on the internet and searched for it. Once found, he ordered the sign without hesitation, anticipating its arrival so he could place it in his window.

“If you are racist, sexist, homophobic, or an a*****e… Don’t come in.”

According to Metro U.K., Hughes placed the sign in his window as soon as it arrived and posted a photo of it on Facebook, along with the story of the situation that prompted the sign. Within hours, fans of his Facebook page were outraged and showed him support via messages and responses on the page.

The child’s father has not come forward to tell his side of the story. It is assumed, by Hughes, that he was not from the area.
