Body Cam Captures Moment Police Officer Resuscitates An Unconscious 7-Month-Old Baby [Video]

The amazing moment that an Albuquerque police officer resuscitated an unconscious seven-month-old baby girl was caught on the officer’s lapel cam. The body cam footage showed Officer Martin Smith arrive first to the frightening scene. The baby’s grandmother was holding the baby, as the child’s distraught mother could be heard crying in the background and talking on the phone with emergency responders. When Officer Smith arrived to the scene, the child was not breathing. Therefore, the calm officer gave the baby a few short breaths and began tapping on her chest as he blew in her face. Moments later, the baby could be seen moving around, and the officer says, “There she is. She’s good. She’s good,” in an attempt to calm the frightened mother.

The heroic actions were all captured on Officer Martin Smith’s lapel body cam. As the officer arrived to the scene, the baby’s mother was frantic, telling the officer that the baby was not breathing and had been asleep all morning. As the officer begins CPR and provides the child with two short breaths, the baby’s arms begin to move. The officer continues to tap the baby’s chest and blow in her face until she begins to come around fully. The family of the baby told KOAT that they don’t know what would have happened in that officer hadn’t responded.

“If it wasn’t for him, who knows what the outcome of the situation could have been. It really comforted me that he helped out so much. I felt relieved.”

Officer Smith says that what he did in the home was just second nature and a technique he had been taught a long time ago. However, he says that it is moments like that which make his job good.

“That’s what makes doing this job good. That’s the good part of it.”

The baby was taken to the hospital and is reportedly doing just fine now. However, it was determined that the child suffers from seizures and she has since been placed on medication.
