Is E.L. James Latest ‘Fifty Shades’ Book,’ ‘Grey,’ Already Being Made Into A Movie?

E.L. James recently announced that she will be writing another book for her Fifty Shades of Grey franchise that will feature Christian Grey’s perspective during the first novel. With that in mind, some news outlets are reporting that talks are already underway to make the newest book into a movie.

The new book, titled Grey, will center on the events that occurred during the original Fifty Shades of Grey and will not venture into any of the other books. James made the announcement after releasing an official statement through social media.

“This book is dedicated to those readers who asked … and asked … and asked for this …,” the author wrote. “Christian is a complex character, and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations and his troubled past. Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story.”

Following the success of the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, production has already started for Fifty Shades Darker. Although Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are set to reprise their roles as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, it is still to be determined if they will be included in the adaptation of the newest book.

The Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Darker, has been delayed multiple times due to behind-the-scenes drama.

Director Sam Taylor-Johnson reportedly decided not to direct Darker because of clashing with E.L. James on the first film. Then, screenwriter Kelly Marcel also left and was replaced by James’ husband, Niall Leonard.

Meanwhile, Grey was set to be released on June 18, but a recent theft may impact that release date. According to the Irish Mirror, authorities have been called in after a copy of the book was reported missing. The main concern here is that the book will be sold on the black market and leaked before the publishers have a chance to release the book.

“We can confirm that the Kent police are investigating the theft of a finished copy of E.L. James’ new book,” a spokeswoman for the publisher tells People. “We cannot go into further details as it may form part of the investigation,” a Kent police spokesman adds. “It could have been in a warehouse, or traveling to a warehouse or from a warehouse. So we need establish where the theft occurred.”

The latest story in the Fifty Shades saga, Grey, will be released to the public on June 18, 2015.
