Man Is Accused Of Drowning Dog He Claimed Was ‘Possessed’

A man from Fayetteville, Arkansas, was arrested on Saturday and held in jail after allegedly drowning a friend’s dog, which he claimed was “possessed.” Alex Allen Webb, 23, of 642 W. 15th St., was arrested after being charged with aggravated cruelty to a dog. He was held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $3,500 bond, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

The unfortunate dog, ironically named Lucky, was owned by Steven Grudzien, who was not present at the time the events occurred. Derry White went home Saturday and saw that Webb was soaking wet. Webb told White that he had “done something.” When they walked into the bathroom, White saw Lucky lying on his back, wet and apparently dead.

When Webb asked White to get a trash bag, evidently to dispose of Lucky’s body, White refused. Instead, White went to get Grudzien.

White apparently tried to save Lucky on Friday. White told police that Webb had told him on Friday the dog was possessed and had to die. White then removed Lucky from the house and put it in a trailer where he thought the dog would be safe, according to a police report. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough to save Lucky.

On Saturday, when police were called by White after Lucky was killed, they found Webb’s wet clothing. They also found a bathtub where an obvious struggle occurred, with numerous scratch marks evident, where “an animal that was struggling and panicked” had been, according to the police report.

When questioned by the police, Webb’s demeanor was described as “unconcerned.” Even though at first he allegedly admitted to others that he killed the dog, he later made an about-face and changed his story, saying that Lucky had run away, according to the Examiner.

Webb also told the police that his jeans were wet from being in a creek. The police were unable to find Lucky’s body. Webb did have a past charge of animal cruelty in 2011. He admitted that he had culled a kitten and eerily made a motion as if he were wringing the poor creature’s neck, according to Channel KY3.

What charge do you think Webb should face? Should he face jail time and/or fines? Do you think anyone who commits such an act can be rehabilitated? Please leave your comments below.

In another case of horrific animal abuse, vigilante justice occurred in a Chinese village when villagers sought revenge after two men stole and killed their dogs for meat. The villagers beat the men for nine hours straight. When police arrived at the scene to attempt to calm and stop the mob for the brutal assault, trying to reason with the villagers that vigilante justice is not acceptable, some members of the mob turned on the police. Eventually, the crowd was calmed and the two men who killed the dogs were taken into police custody, according to an article in the Inquisitr.
