‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers: ‘Major Fallout’ As Enzo Must Pick A Side And ‘Finding Family’

The Vampire Diaries is going to look very different in Season 7 — and not just because it will be without Nina Dobrev and her character, Elena. There’s also the change to Mystic Falls and what it means that those Lily considers family are no longer trapped in the 1903 prison world.

In the TVD Season 6 finale, almost everyone was busy saying their goodbyes to Elena after Kai cast a spell that meant that as long as Bonnie’s alive, Elena won’t wake up, but Enzo was off with Lily, who was desperately searching for the group of heretics she considers her family after she made a deal with Kai. She gave him her blood, which allowed him to kill himself, eliminate the Gemini coven, and come back as a vampire to continue to inflict pain and suffering, and he gave her her friends back. It turned out that he hid them away in a warehouse, which he magically cloaked, and it was only revealed to Enzo and Lily after Damon decapitated Kai. Inside the warehouse, Lily was reunited with her friends and told Enzo that they were his family, too.

But is Enzo going to be part of that family? Executive producer Caroline Dries told E! News that he’s going to have a decision to make when it comes to picking sides, especially since Lily’s sons have made it very clear how they feel about her choices.

“I’m really looking forward to how Enzo gets put in the middle of Lily’s heretic world and the Damon/Mystic Falls/Caroline world in season seven. He needs to figure out which side he’s on and who he’s loyal to. There’s going to be some major fallout to that.”

Speaking of Mystic Falls, the end of the Season 6 finale featured a time jump that showed that things had really changed and something had clearly happened in the town. Damon stood looking out on the clock tower (watch the video below for another look at that), and Matt was officially a member of the town’s police department. Could Lily and her heretics be involved in what happened?

As the Inquisitr previously reported, this next season of The Vampire Diaries will see how Damon Salvatore does without Elena, and it’s not going to be pretty.

It’s been said that Damon will be “darker” without Elena in his life and, according to TVLine, an ATX Television Festival panel with Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson revealed that this means that he’ll be able “to be messier with his choices” and that Season 7 is about “finding family.”

The Vampire Diaries Season 7 will air Thursdays at 8 p.m. this fall on the CW.
