Barbie: 23 Dolls’ Skin Tones Look Real, ‘Fashionistas’ Collection Dumps Heels, Rocks Flats

Finally, after 56 long years, Mattel is giving Barbie its most radical makeover. The toymaker introduced the new “Fashionistas” collection that features 23 Barbie dolls with several shades of skin tones. Additionally, the overhaul of the popular doll includes articulated ankles to dump the heels to wear flats, citing a News One report.

For over five decades, Barbie has been trapped in stilettos. At the time, the dolls were meant to show off style and high-fashion. However, over the years, millennials have opted to go low and comfy instead of burdening their feet with uncomfortable high-heel shoes.

The company launched 17 of its 23 dolls, and have plans to launch the remaining Barbies soon. It released a statement on the exciting venture, wrote NO.

“Mattel reveals that this new line is representative of the ‘continued evolution of the Barbie brand,’ and the diverse dolls have been designed to be realistic and representative of the world as seen by little girls. The flat shoes is said to be a part of Barbie’s ‘authentic street style.’ “

Barbie’s 23 dolls have eight skin tones, 22 different hairstyles, 18 colors for eyes, and 14 unique sculpting of facial features. And by the way, the company added 23 hair colors.

Arguably, the company deserves kudos for trying to keep pace with the evolution of pop culture. In doing so, it makes the Barbie 23 doll lineup more real and reflective of global diversity.

Hopefully, the new Barbie dolls with 23 skin tones won’t suffer a similar backlash like Valeria Lukyanova did. The “Real-Life Barbie” recently posted photos on social media of her trimmed-down figure. Fans are accustomed to seeing the “Living Barbie Doll” in snaps that flaunted her soft and impeccable skin like the iconic toy.

However, the new pics showed off rock-hard abs. But after throngs of readers accused her of doctoring the images, Val confessed the images were done to put her in the best light.
