Singer and actress Willow Smith, daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, is the new face of Marc Jacobs for the fashion designer’s fall 2015 collection.
The announcement was made over Instagram, where Jacobs posted a pic of Smith wearing one of his black lace dresses, emblazoned with a metallic bodice. Willow also wears a long metallic coat and leather riding gloves.
The stunning photo, taken by artist David Sims, is captioned:
“Over the years we have photographed an incredibly diverse and exceptional group of talented friends and individuals who I greatly admire…Beauty, style and talent know no age. It is those individuals whose creativity, unique vision, and voice inspire all of us here to create and express ourselves through our medium: fashion. This season’s ads feature friends, each of whom evoke a sense of intrigue and inspiration, and collectively provoke a true consideration for individuality. Here today I would like to share (not CHER) with you first, the talented, stylish, and charming Willow Smith.”
The designer also alludes to the other face of his fall line, superstar singer and actress Cher, now 69. Fans were surprised to hear the news that Cher would also headline as the face of Marc’s namesake label, according to SF Gate, along with 14-year-old Willow Smith.
Willow stirred up controversy earlier this year when she posted a topless pic of herself on Instagram. Smith posed for the photo with her arms raised and her hands resting behind her neck. She was fully clothed, but her top brazenly showed off her bare breasts. The photo might have been part of the “Free the Nipple” campaign, aimed at addressing the taboo surrounding female breasts.
After the photo was posted, Child Protective Services visited the Smith family, although nothing came of the event. Jada Smith fired back at the public, stating, “”There was nothing sexual about that picture or that situation. You guys are projecting your trash onto it. You’re acting like covert pedophiles and that’s not cool.”
Jacobs promises more surprises as he entices his audience to “stay tuned” for an “incredibly diverse and exceptional group of talented friends and individuals” representing his brand to be revealed in the coming weeks, reports Essence magazine.
As the new poster child for Marc Jacobs, Willow Smith is still stirring up controversy, although it seems that’s what Marc likes. He stated he looks for spokeswomen who “evoke a sense of intrigue and inspiration”, and Willow Smith certainly fits the bill.
