WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has had quite the year. He won the 2015 Royal Rumble match and even main evented WrestleMania 31 with Brock Lesnar. Few can say that they did one of those things, much less two. Meanwhile, Dean Ambrose has had an okay year. He wrestled for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 31 and has been in the WWE World Heavyweight Title picture a bit. However, nothing has been spectacular for him this year.
What is interesting is that despite Reigns having a better career thus far and being pushed down out throats, the fans love Ambrose more than any other former Shield member. This is why at Elimination Chamber, the world popped when it appeared as if he won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The match ended in a weird DQ, which cost Rollins the match but not the title.
This led Dean to go crazy on the situation and “steal” the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. One could easily say he is the rightful champion, but it appears that we’ll find out at Money in the Bank when he and Seth Rollins square off in a ladder match for the title.
What is interesting is that WWE has been teasing the friendship of Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns hard lately. We all knew they were friends before, but teasing this the way they have means something big is going to happen.
Cageside Seats is reporting that the friendship tease was originally set to lead to Roman Reigns turning heel and betraying Ambrose. However, it appears now that Ambrose might be the one turning heel. While most speculate that Reigns makes the most sense for the heel turn, seeing as Ambrose is beloved right now, you never know with WWE these days.
One idea that has been tossed around is that Reigns will win the MITB ladder match. Then at the end of the MITB PPV, he’ll cash in on the winner of the World Title ladder match which will most likely be Ambrose. This allows Reigns to get the WWE World Title and Ambrose technically gets it as well. This is quite possible more now than ever as the tentative plan for WWE Battleground is for Brock Lesnar to have a match with Seth Rollins. The title doesn’t have to be on the line, but Lesnar will get his rematch eventually. He might want to take out Rollins first, however.
That being said, Reigns and Ambrose could have a program in the meantime. This might help Reigns far more than Ambrose, seeing as we all know what a heel Ambrose would be. While great, Reigns needs a turn more than Dean does. Regardless of which happens, we know one will ultimately lead to something big by the end of the summer with one of them in WWE.
