Broken Bat Hits Fan At Boston Red Sox Game, Woman Suffers Serious Injuries At Fenway Park
A fan suffered life-threatening injuries during the Boston Red Sox vs Oakland A’s game on Friday night after being hit by a baseball bat that flew into the stands. According to CBS 5, a woman watching the game at Boston’s Fenway Park was seriously injured during the second inning when a broken bat hit her in the head.
“A’s second baseman Brett Lawrie hit a ball that broke his bat near the handle. The follow-through sent the broken barrel zooming into the stands just behind the Red Sox dugout.”
Immediately after the incident, fans at the game began tweeting out photos of the woman being taken away by emergency personnel.

Boston Globe reporter Pete Abraham tweeted that there was “lots of blood” and it was an “awful scene.” Boston.com reports that the woman was sitting with her husband and son when she was hit by the broken bat.

There was no immediate word about the extent of the woman’s injuries. Boston.com reports that she was removed from Fenway Park shortly after the incident, and taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The game was delayed for a short time while she was transported out of Fenway Park.
