Minnie Mouse And Hello Kitty Arrested In Times Square After Brutal Brawl

Minnie Mouse and Hello Kitty are typically associated with happiness and fun. However, two women in Times Square seemed to forget about the proper public persona for the two animated characters when tempers rose and the pair began to fight each other amidst a crowd of other costumed characters that congregated in the popular New York tourist area. Cats and mice tend to be bitter enemies, but the brutal brawl that took place in Times Square may have been better suited for Tom and Jerry or Itchy and Scratchy.

The women involved in the violent skirmish were 34-year-old Sandra Mocha from Queens and 40-year-old Giovanna Melendez from New Jersey, according to Metro U.K. Melendez was dressed as Hello Kitty and Mocha was dressed as Minnie Mouse. Both were arrested after the fight broke out, resulting in the childhood icons being restrained as they were charged with assault.

The New York Post reported that the two women began to fight over tips that were received after performing in Times Square on Thursday. The women posed with an individual that was passing by and received a tip for the photo op. However, when the passer-by provided only one tip, the two women began to brutally brawl over who should receive the tip. The money was given to Hello Kitty, with the intention that it would be split between the two. However, Minnie Mouse did not trust that Hello kitty would share. As a result of the fight, Melendez received a cut to her upper lip and Mocha received an abrasion to the side of her face.

Tim Tompkins, the president of Times Square, commented on the incident.

‘This is another reason why we need regulations to address the growing problems in Times Square,’

The increasing appearance of costumed characters has been the source of multiple incidents in Times Square over the past few years. There was once a time when the Naked Cowboy was the person to take your picture with. However, Batman, Spiderman, Elmo, and many more can often be found walking the streets in an attempt to win a tip for a photo opportunity. As the costumed performers increase in numbers, many are competing fiercely over the tips that are given out, some being quite violent when defending the territories that they claim for their own. Although most of the fights have been between the costumed characters, there are times when the innocent passers-by get involved in the brawls.
