John Legend Went To The Dogs For A Wedding, But Still Has The Top Wedding Song Of The Year

It’s June and that means wedding season is here. White gowns, flower girls, bridesmaids’ dresses, and, of course, the all important question of music are on every bride’s to-do list. John Legend’s song “All of Me” is the number one wedding song this year, and wedding musicians everywhere are getting ready.

Legend’s “All of Me” is great, but there’s a lot more to wedding music than choosing one song.

Brides need to choose music for the walk up the aisle, the walk back down the aisle as husband and wife, and lots in between. And that’s just the ceremony. The reception needs a whole selection of different kinds of music, from the dinner music to a sentimental song for the first dance, to party-time music to finish off the night.

Too complicated? John Legend might be able to help with the wedding planning. He’s got some unbeatable experience. Last April, Legend set up a wedding for his two pet dogs, Puddy and Pippa. The pooches had a dream wedding with cake, roses, and John himself serenading them with his hit song, “All of Me.”

Legend did it to raise money for a good cause: rebuilding the auditorium at the former South High School in Springfield, Ohio. Fans got to buy a chance to have John perform in person at a private party, or even at their own wedding.

John’s tune is top of the wedding music list, but there are lots more tunes to choose from. Musictimes notes that “Bruno Mars’ ‘Marry You,’ Christina Perri’s ‘A Thousand Years’ (from Twilight: Breaking Dawn) and Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed Delivered (I’m Yours)’ are among the top 50.”

Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” is the top choice for first dance music, and legends in the wedding music world like Etta James’ “At Last,” and Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Fallin’ In Love” are still popular too.

Aside from the ever popular “All of Me,” John has some other wedding songs in the favorites list. Jet Magazine talked to Legend a couple of years back, shortly before the star’s own wedding. John boasted that he has “a few love anthems that would be perfect for his—or any other—wedding.” Jet Magazine made a list for John. Their pick of songs for Legend to play at his wedding were “So High,” “Stay With You” (both from Get Lifted), “Save Room” and “Each Day Gets Better” from Once Again, and “I Love, You Love,” and “Good Morning,” from Evolver.

John just may have what it takes to join become a legend in the all-time top wedding song list. What do you think? Would you choose a Legend song for your wedding?
