Warner Bros. President Explains Why ‘Wonder Woman’ And Other DC Movies Are Different From Marvel

Warner Bros., TV and movie producers that appear to have a monopoly on DC Comics properties, chose DC Comics in the ever-expanding war between Marvel and DC. Since DC’s The Dark Knight, DC’s Arrow, and Marvel’s The Avengers, the war between producers to keep up with comic book adaptations has pitted Marvel Vs DC Comics. Surprisingly, Dark Horse and Dynamite have not really found a footing in movie or TV.

For anyone who follows Marvel and DC Comics films, it would come as no surprise to hear from Warner Bros. president that they are in fact very different styled movies.

Comicbook reports that Warner Bros. President Greg Silverman sat down for an interview to discuss Wonder woman, and the upcoming DC Comics movies that his company is producing over the next decade. Wonder Woman, since Warner Bros. started production for the DC movie, has undergone a directorial change from Michelle Maclarin to Patty Jenkins.

You do not have to be familiar with these directors to notice something specific about them. They are both woman directors. However, Warner Bros. president denies that this had anything to do with either choice.

“We had a very intensive process looking at everybody. Patty and Michelle were really the ones who came to the forefront the first go-round, so when things didn’t work out with Michelle, we all knew we had someone great who had expressed interest before. She came back and is doing a great job. But it was never about the best female director. She has demonstrated doing amazing work with female characters, such as in Monster.”

Warner Bros. CEO Tsujihara declared in March that their DC Comics movies will be “edgier” than Marvel Comics movies, but what about the humor of comic books like The Flash, and other comic books over yesteryear?

“There is intensity and a seriousness of purpose to some of these characters. The filmmakers who are tackling these properties are making great movies about superheroes; they aren’t making superhero movies. And when you are trying to make a good movie, you tackle interesting philosophies and character development. There’s also humor, which is an important part.”

Until now, that is the only statement on how Warner Bros. intends their DC Comics based movies would be from Marvel. He elaborated to the Hollywood Reporter.

“We have a great strategy for the DC films, which is to take these beloved characters and put them in the hands of master filmmakers and make sure they all coordinate with each other. You’ll see the difference when you see Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League and all the things that we are working on.”

For any Marvel and/or DC Comics fan, the Warner Bros. president and CEO’s comments about the upcoming movies should come as no surprise. As every DC or Marvel Comics fan knows, DC tends to carry the “darker” and “edgier” comics vibe. Whereas Marvel Comics, tends to be more light-hearted and comical.

You need to look no further than Deadpool for an example, the Marvel film that the Inquisitr reports just wrapped up production.
