Melissa McCarthy’s Weight Loss Secret: Have A Pregnant Lady’s Mentality


Melissa McCarthy’s weight loss secret might surprise you. Instead of doing juice cleanses or squeezing into one of those uncomfortable waist trainers that are currently all the rage with celebrities, the Spy star simply decided to think like a pregnant lady. Incredibly, this helped Melissa drop a whopping 45 pounds.

Unfortunately, Melissa McCarthy’s weight loss secret doesn’t involve eating for two. Many pregnant women don’t fret about their figures because they know that their bellies will bulge no matter what they do, and that’s exactly the mentality that Melissa embraced. According to Glamour, the actress recently revealed that she finally started seeing results after she quit worrying about sticking to a strict routine.

“I truly stopped worrying about it,” she said during an appearance on CBS This Morning. “I truly stopped worrying about it. I stopped over-analyzing, over-thinking, over-doing anything. I kinda went back to when I was pregnant and I just stopped constantly being worried about it and I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.”

Melissa McCarthy stated that she “feels amazing,” and she believes that working to change the way that she thinks about her weight was one of the best things that she’s ever done for herself. However, Melissa obviously couldn’t melt those pounds away using a change of mentality alone. According to SHAPE, the Mike & Molly star is also following a high protein, low carb diet — she’s just not beating herself up if she doesn’t stick to her diet plan.

According to WebMD, low-carb diets are an effective way to get the body to burn more fat.

“Normally your body burns carbohydrates for fuel. When you drastically cut carbs, the body goes into a metabolic state called ketosis, and it begins to burn its own fat for fuel. When your fat stores become a primary energy source, you may lose weight.”

In addition to changing the way she looks at dieting, Melissa McCarthy has started looking for some meaningful motivation that will encourage her to lose weight and get healthy, and she discovered it when she thought about her kids. According to SHAPE, Melissa wants to set a good example for them and ensure that she’s in their lives as long as possible.

Melissa McCarthy was singing a much different tune in June of last year. As the Inquisitr previously reported, the actress told Rolling Stone that she ate and drank too much because she thought it was important to really relish life and live in the moment.

“I’m just always saying, ‘Ah, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow,’ ” McCarthy said.
