Sheryl Sandberg’s Facebook Post On The Sudden Death Of 47-Year-Old Husband Dave: I Hate Every Car That Didn’t Move Out Of Ambulance’s Way

There is one Facebook page currently going viral online, and it makes sense that Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg would place her statement on the social media website. In her post, which has been liked by names you don’t usually see “liking” a Facebook post — Mark Zuckerberg, Randi Zuckerberg, and Arianna Huffington — Sheryl recounts the 30 days since the death of her husband Dave.

As reported by the Telegraph, 47-year-old Dave died in an exercising accident on the treadmill.

In her eloquent Facebook post, Sandberg explains how she didn’t know at the time that Dave had died immediately. Sheryl explained how excruciatingly long the ambulance ride seemed — and how much it angered her when people didn’t move out of the way.

“Although we now know that Dave died immediately, I didn’t know that in the ambulance. The trip to the hospital was unbearably slow. I still hate every car that did not move to the side, every person who cared more about arriving at their destination a few minutes earlier than making room for us to pass. I have noticed this while driving in many countries and cities. Let’s all move out of the way. Someone’s parent or partner or child might depend on it.”

It’s a Facebook tribute that can bring tears to a reader’s eyes. After explaining the Jewish tradition of sitting shiva for 7 days after a loved one is buried and also taking a full 30 days to observe the mourning called sheloshim, Sheryl explained what she’s learned about death and mourning and living and loving.

“I have learned to ask for help—and I have learned how much help I need. Until now, I have been the older sister, the COO, the doer and the planner. I did not plan this, and when it happened, I was not capable of doing much of anything. Those closest to me took over. They planned. They arranged. They told me where to sit and reminded me to eat. They are still doing so much to support me and my children.”

As reported by the Inquisitr, Facebook has been an outlet for all forms of expression to go viral, such as when a Muslim chaplain complained about discrimination on a United Airlines flight. With Sandberg’s touching tribute to her late husband also going viral in a big way, the social networking site is once again the focus of how social media can be used in the most touching and effective ways.
