‘The Hunger Games’ Reaches $250 Million In Record Time
The winner of this weekend’s box office was, unsurprisingly, “The Hunger Games.” The movie staring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson too in another $60 million this weekend to bring its total to more than $250 million.
“The Hunger Games” had the third biggest opening weekend of all-time by bringing in $152.2 million at the domestic box office. (The movie had the largest opening in history for a non-sequel.) It was another record breaking weekend for the movie as the movie became the fastest non-sequel to pass the $250 million mark.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “The Hunger Games” tied “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” by reaching $250 million in just 10 days. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” hit the mark in nine days while “The Dark Knight” holds the record with it’s amazing 8-day $250 million run.
The international numbers for “The Hunger Games” haven’t been as great. The film has taken in $113.9 million overseas which, although it is less than half of the movie’s domestic box office, is still pretty impressive.
