Esther Jenner: Caitlyn Jenner’s Mom Speaks Out On Son’s Transition: ‘I Still Have To Call Him Bruce’

Esther Jenner, Caitlyn Jenner’s mom, has broken her silence on her daughter’s, Caitlyn Jenner’s (formerly Bruce), transition, and is speaking out on the Olympian’s Vanity Fair debut.

“She’s beautiful!” Esther Jenner told Access Hollywood‘s Stephanie Bauer during an exclusive interview after the Vanity Fair cover, which donned the words “Call Me Caitlyn,” was revealed on Monday.

Esther explained that she got to meet Caitlyn prior to the magazine’s release, and said she seemed to be so much more relaxed.

“I was there last week, well actually, I got home a week and a half ago. And I met Caitlyn. She is … so much more at ease,” the 88-year-old Jenner matriarch said.

While Esther says she supports her child completely, she admits that she will have a hard time calling her anything but her given name — Bruce.

“I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that,” she explained. “It’s going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so … I’m very happy for him – or her!”

Esther says Caitlyn reminds her a lot of her niece, Samantha Jenner.

“You know who she reminds me of, my granddaughter Samantha. There is a lot of Sam!” she said.

Esther seems to be nothing but supportive of Caitlyn Jenner, but in the Vanity Fair article, she seemed a little less enthusiastic on the idea of her transition.

“I woke up one night and all I was thinking about is: ‘Why is it necessary [for Caitlyn] to go through all these surgeries?’ ” she said, according to Fox News. ” ‘Is this all about making money?’ And that was bothering me. He’s lived a life the last 25 years—and I don’t know if it was both he and Kris or mainly Kris—it seemed like their lifestyle was about money; that’s why it came to my mind.”

On Monday, Caitlyn set up her own Twitter account and tweeted, “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”
