Shonda Rhimes Will Publish Book About Becoming A ‘Yes Woman’

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of such shows as Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy, is apparently adding “author” to her impressive resume.

According to Time magazine, Shonda will publish her first book later this year through Simon and Schuster.

Her new book, Year of Yes, focuses on the real-life journey that Shonda took herself when she essentially decided to become a “Yes Woman” – saying “yes” to every unexpected offer and invitation.

The 45-year-old showrunner also confirmed the news on her official Twitter page Tuesday.

One of the most notable characteristics that Shonda Rhimes has become known for over the years is her impeccable storytelling skills. However, according to her statement in a press release, Shonda never planned on telling this particular story.

“Saying yes for an entire year turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions I have ever made. It was also a little insane, a lot terrifying and sometimes wildly embarrassing. So this is not a story I ever planned to share with anyone.”

However, she apparently decided to follow her pattern of saying “yes” to everything when Simon and Schuster decided to approach her with the opportunity to finally become a published author.

The journey of saying “Yes” to everything was brought to the big-screen in the 2008 romantic comedy, Yes Man.

In the Peyton Reed-directed movie, Jim Carrey played Carl Allen – a bank loan officer struggling with the aftermath of his divorce. During a seminar with an inspirational guru, Carl promises to start saying “Yes” to everything instead of sticking to his usual response of “No.”

The film, which also starred Zooey Deschanel and Bradley Cooper, was actually based on the 2005 book of the same name, which was written by British humorist Danny Wallace.

Shonda Rhimes’ first published book, Year of Yes, is currently scheduled to be released in November 2015. Perhaps there might even be a big-screen movie (or at least a television series) developed in the near future which will be based on the book.
