Eddie Redmayne Signs On For The Harry Potter Movie ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’


Since the exciting news another Harry Potter movie was in the pipelines, fans have been ecstatic. The name of the movie is called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and, as previously reported by the Inquisitr, will be released in 2016. It had been also announced recently the Harry Potter spin off movie had contenders such as Dakota Fanning and Kate Upton interested. But now it has been confirmed Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) will take on the main role of Newt Scamander in the latest Harry Potter movie.

Eddie Redmayne won his Oscar for his portrayal of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawkings in The Theory of Everything. The movie told the story of Hawkings overcoming motor neurons disease to become one of the greatest physicists of our times. Eddie Redmayne is also known for his roles in Jupiter Ascending, Les Misérables and the TV series, The Pillars of the Earth.

The following statement was issued by Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures, Silverman about Eddie Redmayne’s inclusion in the latest Harry Potter movie:

“Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors. We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set many years before the Harry Potter series that made J.K. Rowling so famous and will be based around Eddie Redmayne’s character, Newt Scamander, “the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Alongside Eddie Redmayne, J.K. Rowling will make her screenwriting debut with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Joining her will be Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films and Lionel Wigram as executive producer (as he has been on the last four Harry Potter movies). David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies will join this latest venture once more as director. Also on board from all eight previous Harry Potter movies will be producer David Heyman.

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, starring Eddie Redmayne, will be released worldwide in 3D and IMAX on November 18, 2016.
