$39,000? Three-Year-Old Has Expensive Birthday Party, Parents Defend Spending So Much On Event
Can you imagine spending $39,000 on a three-year-old’s birthday party? Well that’s exactly what Eric Lembo and Trang Nguyen did for their daughter. According to Boston.com, the couple decided to go big for their daughter’s party, inviting 220 people and going all out when it came to food, decor, and entertainment.
“The Disney-themed party included entertainment from a former Australian Idol contestant, strolling characters, a magician, photo booth, balloon artist, face painter, a children’s high tea, and a menu with truffle arancini, paella, oysters, pork belly, and tempura scallops, according to the Perth Times. Lembo even placed a giant chandelier-lined marquee on the grounds of the popular riverfront venue he owns, which is where the party was held.”

The $39,000 spent on the three-year-old has gotten a lot of criticism online, but Eric Lembo and Trang Nguyen have defended their decision to throw such an extravagant soiree for their toddler. According to Yahoo! News:
“The Italian and the Vietnamese cultures have a large first birthday so we decided to do it for her second and third birthday as well. It has really become a party not just for Lauren but for all of my family and friends to get together. That’s very important to me.”
While some people believe that these people did nothing wrong – saying that, if they can afford it, they should be able to spend their money however they want – others feel as though this super pricey birthday party is simply ridiculous, and they can’t even believe that people would handle it just like a wedding.
The $39,000 spent on the three-year-old’s birthday party wasn’t that big of a deal according to Mr. Lembo. The way he sees it, he’s giving back to the community by throwing these parties. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Lembo said that throwing such an event “injects money back into the community.” He added that he once funded a wedding for a terminally ill person, and that he regularly donates money to charity.
