Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne: #FWA Hints? The Truth Behind Collaboration History

Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne’s paths tend to cross — but do they really have four collaborations and counting?

In 2011, Justin Bieber covered Lil Wayne’s “How to Love” for Lil Wayne’s 29th birthday. After Justin Bieber tweeted that cover to Lil Wayne as a surprise, they started to be intertwined in media headlines more often. Regardless, many social media posts about Lil Wayne and Justin Bieber collaborations are illusions.

In particular, there are so many Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne fan mashups and mixes that they are sometimes confused with the real thing. Good examples are Justin Bieber “official video music” videos like “Horror Story” or “Just Chill” that feature Lil Wayne.

In truth, there has only been one official collaboration between Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne thus far — and the name of that song is “Backpack.” Released in December 2013, the Huffington Post states the following about “Backpack.”

“Justin Bieber released his Journals album on Sunday night (December 22) and with it came the debut of a new track called “Backpack” with Lil Wayne. The single is straight out of E.T. with Bieber singing about meeting an alien woman and promising to take care of her.”

Justin Bieber and Lil Wayne have not always gotten along — and for awhile it looked like another collaboration might not be possible for a long time.

As a matter of fact, it was only last June that Lil Wayne and Justin Bieber ended a feud that involved Bieber’s manager, Scooter. The beef started right after they released “Backpack” when Scooter was making fun of Lil Wayne’s entourage member Lil Twist.

Lil Wayne said that Justin Bieber was his “little brother” — but insisted that making fun of Lil Twist was off limits for Bieber’s entourage. The two patched things up, but no new music was released with the two of them after “Backpack.”

In the meantime, Lil Wayne is ending his first set of club tours for 2015 and is about to do several huge concerts along with other newly announced club appearances.

Justin Bieber is spending the end of May going after newspapers that spread rumors about him and Selena Gomez getting back together. But is there enough time for them to be working on a music collaboration together?

As it happens, they might not have to get into the studio and record to release a new track together.

In May, there were allegations that Lil Wayne and Justin Bieber have an unreleased track. According to MTV News, the new rumors about a second collaboration between Lil Wayne and Justin Bieber begin with Moroccan rapper French Montana.

When telling his story, French Montana talked about his current track, “I Ain’t Gonna Lie” — that feature Lil Wayne’s vocals.

About the history behind that song, French Montana stated the following.

“I remember I was in the studio and I came by and we were doing a song with Justin Bieber for Carter V… so after we did that song I just played him the beat [for ‘I Ain’t Gonna Lie’] and I already had the hook on there.”

Does this hint at a track that will eventually be released by either Lil Wayne, Justin Bieber, or French Montana? Is French Montana truly giving fans a hint about music that could be on Lil Wayne’s #FWA or Tha Carter V release?

After all, Lil Wayne has been promising for months that #FWA is on the verge of release. Will it finally pop off with French Montana and Justin Bieber’s help?

What we do know is that Lil Wayne is far from being finished with his legal battles surrounding releasing Tha Carter V and the #FWA keeps getting pushed back. For those reasons, it is unlikely that Lil Wayne will be the first to release the French Montana-related tracks that could result in a collaboration with Justin Bieber.

On the other hand, Justin Bieber is due to release another album soon — and it is alleged to be full of collaborations.
