Carson Daly Apologizes To GLAAD For Gay Jokes

Earlier this week Carson Daly offended the LGBT community with a few off color jokes on his radio show. “The Voice” host issued an apology today after joking that gay passengers wouldn’t have been able to subdue the JetBlue pilot who had a meltdown.

Reuters reports that the JetBlue flight was full of people heading down to a security conference. Daly joked that with his luck, the incident would have occurred on a flight heading down to the gay pride parade and his homosexual buddies wouldn’t have been able to subdue the pilot.

Daly said, in a high pitched “gay voice:”

“With my luck, it would be like … this is the flight going to (the gay pride parade) in San Francisco… That would be my colleagues … ‘Uh, we’re headed down to Vegas for the floral convention … could we get a little help up here with the pilot?’

Daly issued an apology for the remark today. Daly wrote:

“We live in a time where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals find courage every day to overcome adversity, stand up to bullying and find equality. I’m truly saddened that my words today suggested otherwise. I’ve long been a supporter of gay, lesbian, and transgender rights, and I’m saddened that my comments, however unintentional, offended anyone, specifically members of the LGBT community. The fact that I have hurt anyone is devastating. I’m not that guy. I’m proud to be an ally of the LGBT community and will continue to fight with them.”

Do you think Carson Daly’s comments were out of line? Do you think his apology was sincere?

GLAAD issued a statement saying that it was up to the public to determine if Daly was sorry for his comments, but that the organization was looking forward to working with him in the fight for equality.
