John Legend Wants You To Help Him Empower The World

John Legend has more on his plate than a model wife and a singing career that just can’t stop growing. Despite enormous success in the entertainment industry, John Legend remembers how he grew up, what he went through, and what got him to where he is today.

He isn’t looking to throw away his past and never look back on the people he’s known and the places he’s been. He isn’t looking to forget the painful times, as if they never existed. Legend is looking to offer understanding and opportunity to young people who need it today, and education reform is just one of his many philanthropic pursuits.

He recently spoke at a Chamber of Commerce dinner in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lancaster is in the same state as the college Legend attended. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1999. But while many were prepared to hear a man speak about the music industry and the triumphs of career, Legend spoke of bringing hope to people with little opportunity.

As reported on LancasterOnline, he told the business and community leaders to focus on the education of children.

“I’ve looked in the eyes of many kids who have big dreams but desperately need someone to believe in them and invest in their future. Right here in the cities and towns of Pennsylvania there are kids that have big dreams but face big obstacles.”

John Legend let the Chamber know they should look after all those little folks and educate them well. He spoke of what his various philanthropic efforts were doing, and what he wishes to accomplish. John surprised and inspired many at the event, just as he does with his musical performances.

John initiates most of his philanthropic work through The Show Me Campaign. He started the Campaign in in 2007, after he read The End of Poverty: Economic Possibilities for Our Time, a bestselling book by Columbia University professor Jeffrey D. Sachs. John later met Sachs and jumped on board with the mission of helping people around the world.

In the midst of all his philanthropic work, Legend finds time for hanging out with his wife Chrissy Teigen, recording a new album, and preparing for an upcoming European tour. His last album included the chart topping hit “All of Me.” His most recent recording project was the award-winning soulful duet about the Civil Rights Movement, “Glory” from the soundtrack to Selma. John Legend continues to amaze on both musical and philanthropic fronts.
