Audrey Hepburn Had Poor Judgement About Her Looks, Her Talent And Her Squabbling Sons

Audrey Hepburn didn’t think much of her looks or her acting ability, but she did think her sons, Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti, would be fine divvying up their inheritance. Turns out Audrey was wrong on both counts.

Hepburn left a storage locker full of memorabilia to her sons to share 50/50. They were supposed to come to an agreement over the contents of the unit, located at the Los Angeles Fine Arts & Wine Storage Company. But 22 years after Audrey’s death from cancer in 1993, Sean (from her first marriage with Mel Ferrer) and Luca (with her second husband, Dr. Andrea Dotti) are still fighting over the jewellery, costumes, scripts, photos, award, and posters.

It’s gotten so bad, the Hepburn boys had to get a judge to intervene. To help clear up who gets which of Audrey Hepburn’s belongings, Ferrer filed a complaint against Dotti in Los Angeles Superior Court and is seeking a jury trial.

So Audrey Hepburn was wrong in her judgement about her sons’ ability to get along. Audrey was also mistaken in her judgement about her own looks and talent. Seems crazy that anyone as perfect as Audrey Hepburn could have self doubts, but the star of Breakfast at Tiffany’s had a lot of doubts.

Hepburn’s son Luca said his mother enjoyed her work, but was “amazed” at her status as a movie star and beauty icon.

“She was always quite amazed by the fact that she was seen as such a beauty icon and as a great actress, she was very shy about that part of her global appreciation.”

Luca told The Daily Mail that Audrey believed people should be able to feel beautiful, and to make “their own choices” to accomplish that. He doesn’t know if Hepburn would have ever considered plastic surgery for herself though. Audrey Hepburn was comfortable, even “proud and happy” with getting older. Audrey thought it could become ridiculous to pretend to be younger by “wearing youthful clothes,” for instance.

“She was very proud and very happy about ageing and she really believed that women and men shouldn’t hide their ageing process… there’s an age for everything.”

It helps if you’re already as beautiful as Audrey Hepburn of course!

Audrey had some beauty tips that didn’t involved makeup, fashion, or plastic surgery. “For beautiful eyes,” said Audrey Hepburn, “look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

Audrey Hepburn probably thought she’d taught that lesson to her sons. Too bad they weren’t listening!
