Devin Thomas, Former Giants WR, Signs 1-Year Deal with Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have signed wide receiver Devin Thomas to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

“I know I’m joining an organization that’s legendary. That’s the first thing that comes to mind, the tradition and the history,” Thomas, 25, said of joining the Bears. “The team has shown so much promise and just needs a little bit more to get to the Super Bowl. I think they’re putting the right pieces together. They have the right mentality to be right there. I’m looking forward to joining the team and adding to the success of the team.”

Thomas, originally a second-round draft choice by the Washington Redskins, spent his 2011 season as a member of the New York Giants.

Though his numbers with the 2011 SuperBowl champions weren’t too impressive – he had three catches for 37 yards, 25 kick returns for 607 yards and five special teams tackles – Devin’s two huge fumble recoveries down the stretch of the NFC Championship will probably be remembered as his greatest moments with the team.

Over the course of his six seasons in the NFL — two with the Giants, one with the Panthers and three with the Redskins — Devin Thomas has caught 43 passes for 482 yards and three touchdowns, 60 kickoff returns for 1,445 yards and 23 special teams tackles.

ESPN writes that Thomas is the third receiver the Bears have acquired this offseason.

The organization sent two third-round picks to Miami for Brandon Marshall, then signed wideout/kick returner Eric Weems at the onset of free agency.
