Anchorman Sequel Confirmed By Ron Burgundy Himself

On last night’s episode of Conan O’Brien’s talk show, Will Ferrell stopped by the studio in character as Ron Burgundy from “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” to woo the crowd with a jazz flute solo and to insult O’Brien. Oh, and to announce that the wildly popular 2004 comedy Anchorman will be getting a sequel.

“I want to announce this to everyone in the Americas, to all our friends in Spain, Turkey and the U.K. — including England — that as of 0900 mountain time, Paramount pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman” Ferrell–er, Burgundy said on Conan Wednesday. “It is official: there will be a sequel to Anchorman.”

After the big announcement, reports came in that in addition to Will Ferrell reprising his role as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2, Steve Carell will be returning as the lovably dim-witted weather reporter Brick, and Paul Rudd will be reprising his role as Brian Fontana. Others may be returning as well, but Paramount told Entertainment Weekly that casting is still up in the air.

The Anchorman sequel will be produced by comedy veteran Judd Apatow alongside Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions. According to Deadline, McKay will both be directing Anchorman 2 as well as writing the script for the movie.
