Melissa McCarthy: The Sky Is The Limit For All Women, From Size Four to 28

As far as Melissa McCarthy is concerned, the sky is the limit for women. And that’s the lesson she wants to pass on to her daughters.

Vivian, 8, and Georgette, 5, already have a hand in their mom’s new clothing line, Seven7, which is launching in August, according to More. Vivian actually designed a black tunic sweater Melissa wore during her interview with the magazine – it was decorated with a picture of a cat and the word “meow.”

McCarthy is proud of their imaginations. Their doodles are turned into patterns for the designs on her new clothes, an enterprise that Melissa has taken a greater interest in than her manufacturing partner anticipated.

“The initial thought was, I may or may not go to meetings. And then I started delivering drawings and saying, ‘No, this is the length, this is the arm measurement,’ and they were like, ‘Um, we kinda didn’t think you’d be here.’ I just figure if it has my name on it and I want to make people feel good about wearing it, I can’t pass it off.”

That’s an excellent example for Vivian and Georgette, who are often told by McCarthy that they can do absolutely anything in life – including running the company, rather than just working for it, USA Today added.

“When I told my daughters there had never been a female president, they were like, ‘What! How is that possible?’ I have an overactive sense of justice … I want the scope for them to be endless.”

But there is a greater reason behind Melissa McCarthy’s detailed involvement Seven7. The line is starting with 80 pieces in sizes four to 28, reaching those plus sizes that department stores seem so ashamed of.

Melissa’s mission to restore the dignity of the plus-size woman began in 2012, when, despite her success in Hollywood, six highfalutin designers outright refused to dress McCarthy for the Oscars, Salon added. Things haven’t become better since, with clothing for plus-size women segregated in the average clothing store.

“[Malls] segregate plus-size [women]. It’s an odd thing that you can’t go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. ‘We’ll put you gals over there because we don’t want to see you and you probably don’t want to be seen.'”

Plus-size women don’t have to worry about being ignored when Melissa’s clothing line launches this summer. McCarthy’s whimsical designs will be available on her web site MelissaMcCarthy.com, and Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s.
