‘American Idol’ Fake? Mariah Carey Slams The Show

Is American Idol fake? That’s what former judge Mariah Carey thinks about the long-running reality singing competition show. Carey lasted one season on the show; but despite that, it looks like the show left quite the impression on the singer.

Right now, Mariah Carey is currently doing promotion for her Las Vegas residency. During an interview with Kyle & Jackie O, an Australia radio station, Carey opened fire at American Idol, calling it one of the worst experiences.

If you remember, Mariah Carey was on the 12th season of American Idol, with rapper Nicki Minaj. The two didn’t get along from the get go and Fox marketed the rivalry so it became more about the judges than the actual contestants.

“I mean, it’s so boring and so fake. I’m sorry, I just think it’s, you know, when I say it’s fake, I mean, it’s just like, you have to make up things to say about people. Half the time, the performances are good, you just be like, ‘It was good.’ You just feel like ending it there, like, It’s really good.”

Then Mariah Carey went on to say that doing American Idol was one of the worst experiences in her life. Although she doesn’t go into specifics, Carey dishes on her American Idol experience to a certain extent.

“I’m not gonna get into what it was, but let’s just say I don’t think they had any intentions for us to have a good experience doing that show…pinning two females against each other wasn’t cool.”

She continued, “It should’ve been about the contestants instead of being about some non-existent feud that turned into like more ridiculousness and I would never want to be involved with it again. But everybody else can like it!”

Earlier in the month, Fox announced that American Idol would go through one last season before ending its series run. When Idol finishes next year it will end at its fifteen season.

“American Idol will begin its 15th — and final — season this January on FOX. A season-long celebratory event, American Idol XV will feature host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. as they search for the final Idol superstar and pay tribute to the past 14 seasons of amazingly talented contestants and the million of t fans who tweeted, texted and championed their Idols.”
