Janet Jackson’s on a roll, and not just because the “Discipline” singer has won multiple Grammys and is coming out with a new album and tour this year. The artist, who turned 49, thought she was being whisked off to a simple romantic sushi dinner on May 16 to celebrate her landmark birthday when her husband of three years, Wissam Al Mana, revealed a shock: Janet Jackson’s surprise 49th birthday party at Hyde Lounge in Los Angeles.
“Thirty of her closest friends and family were there,” reports Us Weekly.
The guests included her brother Jermaine Jackson, who turned 60 in 2015, and who reportedly was dressed in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton at the birthday party.
Her husband had another surprise in store for Janet: she was presented with not just one but “two beautiful cakes,” reports a party insider close to Janet. The singer and her guests partied until 1:30 in the morning.
In 2012, Jackson secretly married Wissam, who is 10 years younger than Janet. Despite the age difference, Janet is a happy bride, insisting in the past that the age difference between her and the Qatari businessman doesn’t matter, reports the Arizona Republic.
“My mother always raised us to believe that age was just a number. All of us — my sisters, my brothers — we’ll just tell you our ages because it’s all about where you are mentally and how you feel about yourself. It doesn’t matter.”

To keep the surprise party hidden from the songstress, Janet’s husband at first pretended the evening was nothing special — no more than a romantic dinner at the famous sushi restaurant for her birthday. When they arrived, the surprise was revealed, and Janet was excited to see 30 of her closest friends, according to an insider in the group.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Janet Jackson recently revealed a surprise of her own for fans: a new album and a world tour to kick it off later this year. Her last album, Disipline, was released in 2008.
She was previously tight-lipped about the project, tweeting, “If there is a new project, you’ll hear it from my lips.”
However, according to Billboard, Janet gave fans a surprise when she recently confirmed there will be a new album by tweeting a video featuring a voiceover of the star.
She said, “I promised you’d hear it from my lips and now you will. This year, new music, new world tour, a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going.”
