Watch live online as Spain’s FC Sevilla faces Ukraine side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League Final — a match that this year, for the first time, carries a coveted prize for the winner. Starting in 2015, the champion of European football’s second-tier international tournament wins a spot in the elite UEFA 2015-2016 Champions League competition.
To find out how to watch the FC Sevilla vs. Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Europa League Final streaming live online from National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland, see the information at the bottom of this article. The match kicks off at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, in Warsaw. That’s 2:30 p.m. United States Eastern time, 11:30 a.m. Pacific.
As valuable as a berth in the Champions League tournament would be for any European club, Dnipro is actually playing for something even greater — to serve as an inspiration to their embattled country.
Dnipro’s incredible run to the Europa League Final has become the most uplifting and incredible story in world sports this year. Not only is Dnipro a side that has never reached a European final of any kind — and never played in the Champions League — the team’s home stadium is located deep in the heart of Eastern Ukraine, where Russian-backed separatist rebels battle Ukraine government troops in a conflict that has claimed more than 6,000 lives over the past year.
As a result, Dnipro has been forced to play their “home” games during the already grueling Europa league competition in the Ukraine capital of Kiev — 500 miles from their home base.
“It is clear these are hard times for our state and for us too,” said Dnipro defender Artem Fedetskiy. “We are hoping our sporting achievement will inspire our heroes who are defending our country from the enemy. May God protect them, and we will do everything that we can to help them.”
For Sevilla, the Spanish club could become the first team to win the Europa League — a merged version of the now-defunct UEFA Cup and UEFA Cup Winners Cup — four times, in any of its versions.
Currently, Sevilla is tied with English powerhouse Liverpool, and Italian clubs Juventus and Inter Milan at three Europa League championships.
Sevilla is also the defending Europa League champions, defeating Portuguese power Benfica in the 2014 UEFA Europa League Final. If Sevilla wins on Wednesday, they are the first club to win the Europa League trophy in back-to-back years — twice.
