Two-Day ‘Jeopardy’ Champion’s Hilarious Answer Amuses Host Alex Trebek [WATCH IT HERE]

Two-time Jeopardy champion Choyon Manjrekar amused host Alex Trebek in a recent Jeopardy return. When he was faced with a question he didn’t know the answer to, Manjrekar opted for a witty response rather than a random guess.

Trebek asked the contestants to make their wagers for Final Jeopardy before presenting their responses for the answer under the category “Hymns.” The Final Jeopardy prompt? A Christian hymn and a Jewish holiday hymn are both titled this, also the name of a 2009 Tony-nominated musical. The true response of Rock of Ages, was missed by all three Jeopardy contestants but the highlight of incorrect responses came when Alex Trebek made his way to Manjrekar.

Manjrekar was leading the game and by the time Trebek was done with his fellow contestants, each had $1 in their banks. As any Jeopardy fan knows, sometimes a game comes down to how much a contestant is willing to wager on that last question and given the Jeopardy champ’s answer, it’s a good thing he only bet $0.

See Choyon’s response here:

Alex Trebek couldn’t help but be amused by Monjarekar’s answer of “Kinky Boots,” chuckling in sarcastic agreement, “Yes indeed. Whenever people go to temple or go to church they sing ‘Kinky Boots’!” The Jeopardy host since 1984, Trebek is no stranger to some pretty entertaining and bizarre answers along the way. In 1986 a Jeopardy contestant was given the answer, “By the 4th century A.D. Rome had 28 public ones stacked with rolls of papyrus.” That contestant’s failed response? “What are public toilets?” Nope. Sorry Gary. The answer was “libraries.”

And Jeopardy fans will always hold dear the time stodgy Alex Trebek tried to rhythmically rap his way like Eminem’s hip grandpa through the category of “It’s a Rap” or in 2010 when the seasoned Jeopardy veteran auto-tuned his voice for the category, “Alex Meets Auto-Tune.”

Of course, Trebek’s tenure on Jeopardy hasn’t all been fun and giggles. In 2013, Trebek came under fire for nearly making a 12-year-old contestant cry when he disqualified the child’s Final Jeopardy answer due to a spelling error. And let’s not forget how Trebek’s smug attitude has earned him a coveted place in Saturday Night Live‘s favorite skits of all time in which Will Ferrell became the embodiment of the Jeopardy host while Darrell Hammond’s Sean Connery relentlessly made sexual innuendos about Trebek and his mother. Still, Trebek must be doing something right as Jeopardy remains the number one game show in the ratings.
