Catholic Priest Issues Stark Warning About Charlie Charlie Challenge: ‘Demons Are Not Playthings’

The Charlie Charlie Challenge may seem like a light-hearted internet prank to some, but the Catholic Church are taking the demon summoning game very seriously, to the point a Catholic priest has urgently warned about the grave dangers inherent in the Charlie Charlie Challenge.

Erupting on social media quite literally overnight, the Ouija board inspired craze is a simple Mexican rite where users place two pencils in the shape of a cross on a blank piece of paper. The words yes and no are then written inside the four squares formed by the pencils.

Participants in the Charlie Charlie Challenge then seek to communicate with an ancient Mexican spirit called Charlie. A Reddit user has given a comprehensive explanation of what exactly this process entails.

“To begin the game, both players must chant, ‘Charlie, Charlie, can we play?’ If the pencils move inward or up, the answer is yes. If they move outward or down, the answer is no. If one side goes one way and the other side goes a different way, it means maybe or the question can’t be answered at this time. You can then ask the spirit of Charlie yes or no questions, and he will respond by moving the pencils. Charlie is kind of like the spirit world version of a Magic 8 ball. To end the game, both players must chant, ‘Charlie, Charlie, can we stop?’ After the pencils move, both players drop all of the pencils on the floor to break contact with Charlie.”

Since it went viral, an unknown number of youngsters have flocked to take part in the Charlie Charlie Challenge and seek advice from Charlie’s demonic pot of wisdom.

However, Father Stephen McCarthy has allegedly issued an urgent warning to pupils at the Saints John Neumann and Mario Goretti Catholic High School in Philadelphia, America about the demonic dangers of the Charlie Charlie Challenge.

The Mirror reports that in a strongly worded letter the Priest has apparently warned pupils that if they invite a Mexican demon into their home, they are pretty much inviting the hordes of hell to follow.

“There is a dangerous game going around on social media which openly encourages impressionable young people to summon demons.

“I want to remind you all there is no such thing as ‘innocently playing’ with demons. Please be sure to NOT participate and and encourage others to avoid participation as well.

“The problem with opening yourself up to demonic activity is that it opens a window of possibilities which is not easily closed.”

The letter goes on to advise anyone looking to enjoy communing with “spiritual entities” to disregard the Charlie Charlie Challenge and consider taking part in a Catholic mass.

Despite the warnings by many that the Charlie Charlie Challenge might pose a very real demonic threat, a principal lecturer in psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University explained to the Manchester Evening News that the craze taking Twitter by storm is nothing more than a classic case of people’s minds playing tricks on them and an old fashioned willingness to believe in the unknown.

“It’s an odd one and not something I’ve seen before; kind of a modified ouija board. This character has spread across the internet and social media and people have taken it on board.

“People are making connections between the pencils moving and anything they see or hear while that’s happening. There’s no connection there, but because they’ve seen this Charlie game and want to believe it, they’ll relate the two.

“People will start to see things they perceive as significant because they’re so involved in it. When people see this online and do it, they’re expecting something to happen. When you expect something to happen, you’ll start to establish patterns and relate arbitrary things.

“Anything that happens, people are associating it with Charlie. The whole thing has been amplified because of social media.”

The devil as they say, remains in the detail.
