Jonathan Rhys Meyers Admits To Relapsing After Being Spotted With Vodka Bottle

A few days ago actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was captured looking worse for wear with a bottle of vodka in his hand. The Dracula star, who is a recovering alcoholic, looked disheveled, and because of his appearance, fans grew worried about Meyers’ condition.

Now, just a week and some change later, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has issued a public apology to his fans. In the statement, which he posted on his girlfriend Mara Lane‘s Instagram, he admitted to relapsing.

The Irish actor captioned a photo with the following statement, “I apologize for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me.”

He continued, “I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection of Damascus Cover [his new movie] as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologize to friends and colleagues.”

“I am on the mend and thank well wishers and sorry for my disheveled appearance as I was on my home from a friend’s and had no changed. I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed but this was a little blip in my recovery, otherwise I’m living a healthy life. Love and blessing #Rebel #Angel.”

After he released the statement, Jonathan’s fans have reached out to support him in his recovery.

Back in 2007, after his mother passed, Jonathan Rhys Meyers opened up about his struggles with alcohol.

“Drinking is not the way forward for me at all. I never even drank till I was 25 anyway. I was in Thailand on my own, filming. I was a little bit lonely and I started drinking… Now drink doesn’t fit into where I want to go. I want to do something useful with my life. Drinking is not synonymous with that. And I don’t put any emphasis on it.”

Do you think Jonathan Rhys Meyers has stopped drinking for good?
