Fan Impaled: 24-Year-Old Dies After Being Impaled On Two Metal Rods At Concert

A fan was impaled at a Chevelle concert in Chicago, Illinois. According to the Toronto Sun, 24-year old Kyle Kirchhoff fell from a catwalk at the Aragon Ballroom on Friday night and landed on two metal rods which impaled his body. The concert was stopped as police and emergency crew worked to get Kyle in an ambulance and to a hospital, but it was too late. He was pronounced dead shortly after the accident, which left him with severe chest wounds.

Concertgoers were sent home as police began an investigation.

The fan impaled may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but authorities haven’t confirmed or denied this theory. It is also possible that Kyle simply tripped or lost his footing in the dark. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said that an autopsy “did not reveal an immediate cause or manner of death.”

According to HNGN, further details of the man’s fall have not been released. However, a few details about Kyle have been.

“Kirchoff graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa with a degree in sports management in 2013. He was an assistant coach for the football team at Bartlett High School, where he also graduated from.”

Those who knew Kyle had wonderful things to say about him. It is clear that he will be greatly missed by his family and his friends. Further details about what happened that night are expected soon.

Chevelle released a statement following the incident.

“An extremely unfortunate event occurred at our show in Chicago Friday night. We were asked by police to stop our set so that the authorities could tend to an injured fan. Once the severity of the accident was determined the authorities cleared out the venue to give them time to investigate. We want to thank our Chicago fans for their respect of the authorities and for understanding that these decisions made by the authorities were out of our control… We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chevelle fan Kyle Kirchhoff and at this time we ask that you all keep Kyle and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

After the fan was impaled and authorities canceled the rest of the concert, some fans demanded refunds. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, social media lit up with people who were angry that some fans were being so insensitive. Do you think asking for a refund was inappropriate?
