‘Bachelorette’ Kaitlyn Bristowe: ‘People Are Going To Relate To Me’

Monday night’s Bachelorette is in some ways the debut of the new season, as it is the first where Kaitlyn Bristowe is the sole woman vying to hand out roses. Last week, Kaitlyn Bristowe of Vancouver, B.C., beat out Britt Nilsson to become the new Bachelorette.

In an interview with Glamour, Kaitlyn revealed what people will see that’s different this year. Specifically, she dished on how she will be a new kind of Bachelorette. She made sideways reference to the new season’s controversial promo, which implied she spends the night with a contestant. It’s an action for which Kaitlyn makes no apologies.

“As much as people want to come down on me for it, I think a lot of people are going to relate to me.”

Kaitlyn, who had a reputation on Chris Soules’ season of The Bachelor as a happy-go-lucky and down-to-earth contestant, told Glamour her Bachelorette season will show that same side of her. She’s also not afraid to push some boundaries.

“I think that this season is going to be very different from any others because I am going to stay true to myself and do things that most people wouldn’t step out of that ‘Bachelorette box’ and do. So yeah, I just think there’s going to be a lot of different emotions, and I think people are going to feel those with me.”

Perhaps surprisingly, Kaitlyn told ABC 6 WPVI-TV that she doesn’t blame any of the men who voted for Britt. Last week’s episode implied the men who dropped their rose in Kaitlyn’s box felt they should be kept around longer than any men who sided with Britt. One man, Brady Toops, left during the rose ceremony to chase after Nilsson.

But Kaitlyn is far more forgiving and wanted each relationship to start anew after Britt’s departure.

“We didn’t have a significant amount of time to sit down and get to know these guys.”

While the first night had its share of drama, more drama is sure to come. Kaitlyn joked to Glamour that when she watched the teaser at the end of the premiere episode, she saw it with the same anticipation that a viewer might.

“[A]fter watching that teaser, I’m like, wow this is dramatic. Chris Harrison might finally be right on that one.”

As for how it ends, she was coy to ABC 6. She said it turned out how she thought it should.

The Bachelorette airs 9 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time Monday on ABC.
