Russell Crowe Mourns The Loss of John Nash, The Man He Portrayed in ‘A Beautiful Mind,’ In Moving Twitter Tribute

Russell Crowe is mourning the loss of John Forbes Nash, Jr., the mathematician who inspired A Beautiful Mind and was killed on Saturday in a car crash at the age of 86.

John Nash’s wife, Alicia, 82, was also killed in the crash.

Russell Crowe portrayed John Nash in A Beautiful Mind, the critically-acclaimed film that garnered a 2002 Oscar for best film, among other awards.

According to Bloomberg, John Nash and his wife were reportedly traveling in a taxi on the New Jersey Turnpike when the fatal accident occurred, New Jersey State Police Sergeant Gregory Williams said Sunday.

The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle while passing another car. The couple, who were not wearing seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle upon impact with a guardrail. The cab driver and the driver of the other car received non-life threatening injuries.

Russell Crowe brilliantly portrayed John Nash in the 2001 film A Beautiful Mind, which chronicled the mathematician’s struggle with schizophrenia as he became internationally recognized for his work in game theory.

John Nash, a professor at Princeton University, won the Nobel Peace Prize in economics in 1994.

Jennifer Connolly starred alongside Russell Crowe in the acclaimed film and won an Academy Award for her portrayal of John Nash’s wife.

Nash and his wife were married for nearly 60 years, although they were separated for a period of time.

According to Gossip Cop, Russell Crowe took to Twitter Sunday to share his grief over the news of John Nash’s demise.

A Beautiful Mind won not only Best Picture, but also Best Director for Ron Howard, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Connolly. Crowe was nominated for Best Actor but lost to Denzel Washington for his portrayal in Training Day.
