Sarah Paulson Delves Deeper Into Her ‘American Horror Story’ Villain

Warning: This article contains spoilers for American Horror Story: Hotel.

As sad as it was to hear, Jessica Lange’s retirement from the American Horror Story series left open the position of the big bad boss and it seems Sarah Paulson is only too eager to step into that American Horror Story vacancy. Proving Ryan Murphy’s tease that Paulson would be playing “the baddest bad girl of them all” in the next installment of American Horror Story wasn’t just talk, Sarah has opened up about the role and revealed enough to make American Horror Story fans that much eager for the October premiere.

“Well, I think, I’ve never played any villain on the show. So perhaps they’ll be an element of bad, bad girl,” Paulson teased of her next American Horror Story character. “Here’s the only thing I can give you … I am not playing Janis Joplin. I would love that, that would be amazing, but no, I am not doing that.”

Paulson warns American Horror Story fans to be wary of some spoilers and casting updates that they may have heard, because she herself has seen some erroneous American Horror Story teasers spreading throughout the internet. Specifically, Ms. Paulson mentioned rumors that Michelle Pfeiffer and Alexander Skarsgård were joining the cast. Currently, in addition to Sarah Paulson, Angela Bassett, and Lady Gaga, the fifth season of American Horror Story has cast Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, and Cheyenne Jackson.

Sarah also opened up about her feelings in regard to working with Lady Gaga, betraying the adoration which she holds for her future American Horror Story co-star.

“I will not have succeeded in this season if I do not have a way of contacting her directly, like a cell phone number, by the end of the season,” Ms. Paulson said. “It will be very embarrassing to me if we don’t become really tight, close friends. The fact that I’m announcing that I want that is what should be terrifying to Lady Gaga.”

It seems Ryan Murphy keeps as tight of a lid on American Horror Story as he has on his new Scream Queens series. Sarah did open up about her experiences on American Horror Story: Freak Show, however. She recalled the difficult time she had portraying Dot and Bette, particularly in regard to the musical numbers.

“We were able to record them separately. I recorded the Dot part, which is her singing well. Then the Bette part, which was slightly off. I really had to work with the singing teacher that Jessica used.”

American Horror Story: Hotel will begin shooting this summer with the premiere set to air in October on FX.
