Celine Dion: Husband ‘Champ’ In Cancer Struggles As Celine, 47, Plans Vegas Return And Champions Rene’s Courage At 73

Celine Dion views her husband as a champ in continuing his courageous battle with cancer. At 73, Rene Angelil is frail but determined to survive, Celine told Entertainment Tonight.

Now 47, Celine has been married to her husband for two decades. They have children, and it was Dion’s desire to champion her husband’s battle that resulted in her Las Vegas residency postponement.

“It’s not hard to take time off,” revealed Celine. “It’s not hard to be with him, obviously. It’s not hard to be with the family and the kids.”

But what is challenging, added the singer, is the lack of control that she and Rene have over his health crisis.

“It’s hard because life imposes things on you,” added Dion.

Rene has battled throat cancer for 15 years. In 2013, surgeons removed a cancerous tumor from Rene’s throat. And now, two years later, Celine is focusing on the positive.

“We know the path that he’s going, the treatments– I knew he was amazing. He’s such a champ. He’s working hard on that.”

Dion is determined to return to her singing career and already is planning shows with her husband that will start at Caesars Palace on August 27.

“[Rene’s] strong,” Celine stated firmly. “We’re creating this show together. We make changes together. He wants me back. He wants me strong and this is what we’re doing together.”

And Dion credits her husband for guiding her in how to be courageous, reported ABC News.

“Sickness and you have no choice but to deal with them. I’ve been with him all my life and he’s showed me the way many times.”

But Celine doesn’t try to hide the challenges that they have faced together.

“He can’t eat so I feed him,” revealed the singer in March. “He’s got a feeding tube. I have to feed him three times a day.”

The 73-year-old resigned as Celine’s manager due to his cancer struggles. Dion revealed that when she discovered that his cancer had become worse, both she and her husband were devastated.

“I went back in my dressing room and I saw him looking pretty devastated, in shock, and I was like, ‘What’s going on. He said, ‘I have cancer again. The doctor just called me and I have cancer again.’

As the Inquisitr reported, Celine broke down in tears as she described her desire to champion her husband in his renewed battle with cancer.

Dion wants to make it clear that they share a resolution to become survivors, not victims, of cancer.

“We are taking it one day at a time. But we are choosing to live.”
