West Virginia House Fire: 9th Victim, 7-year-old Boy, Dies

The death toll in a West Virginia house fire rose to nine Sunday after Bryan Timothy Camp, 7, was taken off life support.

According to ABC news, family members of the boy, who was burned over about 45 percent of his body, decided to disconnect the child from the medical equipment keeping him alive after doctors determined he was brain dead.

The other victims of the early Saturday blaze, which authorities are calling “the deadliest house fire in Charleston in 60 years,” were Alisha Carter-Camp, 26, Carter-Camp’s boyfriend Alex Seal, age unknown, Keahna Camp, 8, Jeremiah Camp, 3, Elijah Scott, 3, Emanuel Jones, 18 months, and twins Kiki and Gigi Seal, both 3.

Carter-Camp’s sister, Latasha Jones-Isabell, 24, whose two children died in the fire, lived at the home but was outside smoking a cigarette when the flames erupted and went to a neighbor’s home to call for help, The Charleston Gazette reported.

Neighbors said Alex Seal was staying at the house at the time with his twin children Kiki and Gigi.

Authorities had yet to determine the cause of the deadly house fire but said the blaze may have started with candles.

“The place of origin of the fire was determined and that’s right as you walk in the door and it’s right there on your left,” Charleston Mayor Danny Jones said of the preliminary investigatory findings.

“There were some candle holders there, so there’s reason to believe, it is possible, it could have been lit candles (that started the fire).”

Officials also pointed out that the home did not have working smoke detectors.

A city inspector had gone to the home last month but did not perform an inspection because only a juvenile was home at the time.
